About Charles Aznavour
Born Shahnourh Vaghinag Aznavourian on May 22 in Paris, the Armenian-French chansonnier, songwriter, composer and film actor was 94 years old and died on October 1, 2018 in Mouriès. He was known as Armenia's permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva and Armenian ambassador to Switzerland. The most famous French singer recorded more than 1,000 songs during his time as a musician.
Charles Aznavourian was born in 1924 under modest circumstances. His father had emigrated from Akhaltsikhe in Georgia, while his mother had fled the Turkish genocide against the Armenians in 1915. After a 19-year wait, the family was finally naturalized in France in 1947. In 1982, Charles Aznavourian officially changed his surname to Aznavour.
