In addition to the classic gold investment coins such as Maple Leaf, Gold Eagle and Krugerrand, the Vienna Philharmonic should not be missing in any investment portfolio.
Commissioned by the Austrian government, the Vienna Philharmonic has been produced by the Austrian Mint since 1989. Its rapidly increasing popularity is mainly due to the fact that the Philharmonic is the first European gold coin with a fineness of 999.9/1000. Although it also has a large following outside the European Union, its face value of 25 EURO makes it particularly popular with European investors. However, the "Wiener" has only carried this value since the introduction of the euro in 2002, as it previously carried a face value of 500 schillings. The proximity of the mint is also a plus for the Philharmoniker. The short transport routes and the fact that the Austrian Mint also maintains its own refinery ensure sufficient and fast deliveries.
The Vienna Philharmonic owes its name to the famous Austrian orchestra, which is one of the best in the world. The gold coin shows the large organ of the Vienna Musikverein on the obverse. Below the organ, the weight of 1/4 oz, the fineness 999.9, the year of mintage and the face value of 25 EURO are embossed. Above you can see the embossed lettering "REPUPLIK ÖSTERREICH". On the reverse side, some musical instruments of the Philharmonic Orchestra are depicted and on the top edge, you can see the name of the orchestra and the gold coin, "WIENER PHILHAMRONIKER". Similar to the gold bullion coins above, the Vienna Philharmonic is also available in 1 oz, 1/2oz and 1/10oz sizes.
Investment gold is exempt from tax under § 25c UStG.
